Specialities

Gisela has an extensive educational and developmental profile. She has undergone numerous post graduate training programmes all of which have contributed to her advanced knowledge and broad experience in her general practice. This has enhanced her clinical experience and she offers informed advice, dietary and lifestyle changes to her patients.
Gisela has familiarity of the NHS working as a ward sister in acute psychiatry to the Strategic Health Authority; having worked and managed homeless services to voluntary sector health organisations. She holds an expansive base of Western and Chinese medical knowledge within the mental health arena.
Wellbeing

Over a third of Gisela’s patients come for acupuncture for mental healthcare. Gisela has a gained a wealth of clinical experience that covers a range of treatments in this area. Acupuncture has helped people with anxiety, stress, panic attacks and insomnia to more debilitating complaints of depression, schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder. Where medication was not favoured as a therapy, Gisela treated women with mental health problems during pregnancy and for post natal depression.
Studies show that acupuncture releases endorphins and hormones such as serotonin, which are natural chemicals that can relieve pain, relax muscles and increase feelings of well being. A review of research by the British Acupuncture Council concluded ‘acupuncture could play a significant role in the treatment of anxiety and depression’.
Fertility

Gisela has been taught by Ji Dong Wu, Peter Deadman and Zita West, where she gained more detailed knowledge of both male and female infertility and assisted conception treatments. The most recent studies have shown that those who had real acupuncture increased their chances of becoming pregnant by 65 per cent compared with the sham treatment or nothing. Gisela has found that another benefit of acupuncture is that IVF treatment is extremely stressful and the relaxation involved also helps.
Gisela treats both partners as several factors may be responsible for male infertility. Treatments address low sperm count, abnormal sperm shape and size, and reduced motility. Lifestyle, genetics, and physiological changes can also raise or lower male fertility levels and can significantly affect a man’s ability to produce offspring.
Menopause

In Chinese medicine the changes that are brought on in a woman’s life are seen as an important and powerful time. No wonder the Chinese call menopause “A Second Spring”! With lessened responsibilities she is now freer to pursue her life and personal dreams; it is her time now for her creativity. She has gained a tremendous life experience and wisdom allowing for possibilities that will allow her to blossom into who she is during this phase of her life.
The aim of treatment is to help adjust to this natural transition more quickly and smoothly and to ease the unwanted effects from a change in the balance of hormones. Gisela has gained more clinical knowledge through study with Giovanni Maciocia in gynaecology, menopause and fertility.
Gynaecology
Acupuncture can help such a breadth of sexual functioning problems. Gisela has found increasingly that men have been seeking treatment for disorders to do with the prostate, pelvic pain and sub-fertility.
The World Health Organization has recommended the use of acupuncture in the treatment of gynecological disorders, in particular, infertility, menopausal symptoms and pre menstrual syndrome. Acupuncture balances the menstrual cycle, regulates the blood flow and can ease pain. It helps with symptoms associated with headaches, bloating, breast tenderness, emotional sensitivity and mood swings.
Gisela has successfully treated miscarriage and treats during pregnancy, which has allowed a greater number of women to have a more positive birth experience overall. From her experience she has noticed that the babies tend to be calm, bright and alert.
